About Us

Cultivated meat is a growing area of research and development (R&D) across the world and is increasingly seen as a way to reduce land and water use in growing meat. There is also potential to mitigate green house gas (GHG) missions if suitable and appropriate technologies are used. However, significant technological and cost challenges remain and we believe that these will only be successfully tackled by taking a wholistic R&D approach to the entire production process. Towards this effort, we have built the Canadian Consortium on Cultivated Meat (CCCM) to bring together expertise across the various domains that are needed to address this challenge and to partner with companies in Canada and abroad who are interested in this fast emerging field.

Established in 2024, CCCM is the first cultivated meat research consortium to receive federal and provincial funding in Canada. The consortium will act as a nodal point for academic institutions, industry partners, regulators, entrepreneurs, and various stakeholders to break down siloes and collaborate effectively to expedite development in this sector. The consortium will serve as a vehicle to interact with other consortiums nationally and internationally to facilitate exchange of ideas and collaborations

The consortium consists of an interdisciplinary group of scientists, engineers, and social science experts with focus on omics approach underpinned by social science to address technical, economic, and social barriers to making cultivated meat scalable and commercializable.
